The secret to using WP as a CMS is by creating multiple "loops", and wrapping them in div's.

Assign each loop a category or a page. So if you want to see featured content in a particular div, create a loop that only show the last article from the Featured category.

I've built dozens of CMS websites for my clients, and they all love the way it works.

This is too difficult to explain over Yahoo Answers, but I would be happy to walk you through it. Feel free to contact me through my website listed below (www.SlipFire.com)

Otherwise search Google for: WordPress Multiple Loops
References :
http://www.SlipFire.com

Although WordPress is primarily known as a blogging tool, its sometime used as a CMS with little more hard work :). With a few modifications, plugins and custom templates it's possible to use WordPress as a content management system.

Changing the look of your WordPress website is extremely easy with the Theme Editor, and the great thing about WP templates is that they're PHP based. This might seem a bit unfriendly towards beginners, but it's great for us, because it means we have a lot to work with.

If you don't know anything about the WP template system, I highly suggest you play with it for a few hours. Get to know how it works and start learning some of the template tags. A great place to start is at the Codex, especially the Template Tags section.

To develop a portal system, its better to use

http://www.joomla.org/
http://www.drupal.org/
http://www.xoops.org/

or few quality Accessible CMS like Ananyoo.
References :
How do I use WordPress as a Content Management System?
Hey guys... I'm setting up a new portal type website called the.ImaGenarY. You can see a draft here.

http://www.theimagenary.com . My question is how do I use a Content Management System (preferably WordPress) to stream content into my site? I want to be able to feature post titles on the right and main content in the main part of my site by simply updating through the CMS.

I know this is a complex topic but if you could point me to some guides that would be great. I'm experienced at HTML and CSS hard coding but not so much when it comes to XML, RSS and PHP etc.

Thanks!
