I just installed awhile back, the title bar on top of your screen is the key, to get new apps SYSTEM> ADMINISTRATION > SYNAPTIC PACKAGE MANAGER. To Navigate PLACES has it all. To load apps go to APPLICATIONS. The library often has books that are free when returned. Also Bordes Bookstore has books and magazines. It is a little hard at first, it is worth it I hardly boot into windows any more, it is great not having to do any malware maintenance. In six months there will be a new version out it will update automatically, the goal is to have a user interface as good as Mac in two years.
References :
Web manuals
https://help.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/desktopguide/C/index.html

http://ubuntumanual.org/

Download a PDF manual:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Training

Fun terminal tutorials
http://linuxsurvival.com/index.php

Everything is a lot easier than it seems at first. Once you get into the swing of things, you'll see how complicated and redundant Windows really is.

Welcome aboard!
References :
Ubuntu guide for newbies?
Hi. I've recently installed Ubuntu 8.04 on my computer, but i've never used any OS besides a Windows one, so I'm completely new to this. Is there a guide for newbies like me to start using Ubuntu. Just standard stuff, navigating, using and installing apps, and some entry level command line basics and whatever is there that I should know to use it just as well as I use Windows
